I was also an ENVI beta tester, but didn't get as much of a chance
to work with it as I expected. Since then I purchased it and have
been using it quite heavily. I also am using it with some AVIRIS
hyperspectral imagery and am pleased with the performance and utility.
There are a few minor kinks to work out as any new product seems
to have, but the folks at BSC and RSI are very receptive to feedback.
I've also been adding some of my own IDL user routines to ENVI.
It's fairly easy to integrate them into the system and use the
built-in IDL widget set. I would say that the documentation may
still need a little work there. Also I wish there was a little better
information on how to call the very base level ENVI/IDL routines.
They've included some routines that IDL programmers can use to
add ENVI specific functions to their own tools, but they all interface
through a file identifier. I understand their reasons for the
interface, but prefer more flexibility when I'm writing routines.
I would suggest to anyone who uses it note any improvements to make
for future upgrades. It's a nice product.
