How can I keep from resizing widgets in IDL? [message #2097]

IDL has this annoying habit of rearranging all of the children widgets
when a parent widget is resized -- this is rarely what we want to do and
often this results in buttons disappearing because they become "hidden"
under other widgets.

Is there a way to prevent this behaviour? If not, how can I decrease the
size of the border bars to 0 so that a user cannot resize the
corresponding widget?
