Try esrg (Earth Sciences Research Group - I think) instead of ersg.

I think the FAQ can be found by anonymous ftp from rtfm.mit.edu in the
directory

/pub/usenet-by-hierarchy/comp/lang/idl-pvwave

For WWW users, the URL is

ftp://rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet-by-hierarchy/comp/lang/idl-pvw ave/IDL_(Interactive_Data_Language)_FAQ

(Whew!). I don't know if there's a more official source. I also haven't
looked recently to make sure it's still there.

I found a copy of idl-faq at ftp.uu.net:/usenet/news.answers/. One
can prob find one in other usual archive site. But there are other
things I would like to get from esrg.ucsb.edu. Can anyone tell me
how I can get in? I tried ftp a few times, but can't seem to get in
either as anonymous or ftp. Do they still support anonymous ftp?

The ESRG site seems to be in the throes of an equipment relocation
exercise. They have recently changed the site from esrg.ucsb.edu to
eos.crseo.ucsb.edu and eexpect to be settling down. The directory is
still /pub/idl. I have not been able to store the latest FAQ there at
this time because the /pub/idl directory is no longer writeable. I'm
waiting for a response to see if and when it will be writeable again.
There is a one month old FAQ there now. Feel free to email me if you'd
like the latest and I'll send it out. Please put something like "IDL
FAQ" in the subject. Alternatively, rtfm.mit.edu keeps copies of FAQs,
also. Alas, they have a limited number of users allowable, and I
cannot check to see if the latest version is available through them.
