Acquisition of Research Systems by Kodak
Posted by Harold Cline, IDL Product Manager, Research
Systems, Inc.
Thank you very much to all of our customers who have
expressed their concerns and opinions over the last week. We would
like to provide answers to your most frequently asked questions for
the benefit of all our loyal customers. Your comments are appreciated
because they indicate your continued interest in RSI and its products.
Q: Will the RSI staff be moving to Rochester, NY?
A: No, the entire staff, including technical support,
development, sales and marketing will remain in Boulder, Co.
Q: What will David Stern's role be in the new
organization?
A: David Stern's role will be that of Founder and
Chief Technologist. He will continue to contribute to the future
content of IDL and the rest of the RSI product line.
Q: I have an installed code base of over 10,000 lines
of IDL code. Will I continue to get technical support and maintenance
for my current IDL version?
A: RSI will continue to provide high quality technical
support and maintenance for IDL and the entire product line.
Q: I just paid for an IDL 5.3 license. Will there be
an IDL 5.4 and 6.0?
A: Yes. IDL5.4 is planned for release this month.
There are already plans in place and work in progress for both an
IDL5.5 and an IDL6.0. Information about release dates and content of
these releases will be announced as their release dates approach.
Q: Will IDL's future technical development be directed
entirely towards imaging and image processing?
A: It is our intent to continue to enhance IDL, not
only in the area of image processing but in analysis, visualization
and data formats. We have a very large customer base and we intend to
continue to listen and respond to the requirements of all of our
customers.
Q: What about the other RSI products, such as ENVI,
VIP and RiverTools?
A: Similar to IDL, it is RSI's plan to aggressively
continue the development and enhancement of these and other RSI
products. The enhancements will be driven based on the market demand
and technology availability.
