Folks,
I just received word of the passing of a dear friend
of mine, Tony Kehoe, after a brief and unexpected illness.
Tony worked with IDL for about as long as I have, first
with Floating Point Systems, the IDL distributor in the
UK, and most lately with the RSI UK office.
Tony attended the first IDL course I ever taught. We
started laughing together about five minutes into the
course, and I don't think we ever stopped in all these
years. We shared the same quirky sense of humor, the
same love of walking the high country of England,
and the same competitiveness in our semi-annual
bowling duels. He once rolled three strikes in
the 10th frame to beat me by a point. He never let
me forget it.
Tony had a kidney transplant several years ago.
I happened to be there when he came home from
the hospital. He was in some pain, and it was
awful to laugh, but there we were exchanging
jokes, him wincing, pleading with me to stop,
but telling his own jokes faster than I could
stop mine. But he and I really couldn't stop.
When we were together our world was full of
fun and laughter.
He was one of my best friends, both inside and
outside the IDL community. He was a good man,
and he made this world a better place to live in.
I will miss him tremendously.
Cheers, Tony. The joy and laughter you found in
life will live with me forever.
