Hi Andrew,
not to the heart of your question (I didn't even know that
something named MESH_DECIMATE exists), but regarding the decimation of
a 3D array: if it is a regularily gridded array, you can use my arrex
routine
( http://www.mpimet.mpg.de/~schultz/martin/idl/html/libmartin_ schultz/).
Otherwise, I would start off with producing a regular dataset in the
appropriate testing dimension (e.g. a stacked dist() ).
Please keep me informed if you learn more about mesh_decimate. This
might interest me too at some point.
