Hi, David.

As far as I understand, the dual monitor thing is handled solely at the
driver level for the 2-monitor video card. It seems to normally be
handled by increasing the visual desktop space available, so that you
can scroll over from one to the other. I also have not yet tried it
out, but I know that the matrox series has drivers for the Windows
variants, including one that supports different resolutions and refresh
rates on '98.

In practice, it should work rather well. When I examined the
possibility, I was planning to use one monitor for editing window(s) and
control widgets and the other for graphical display.

However, I'm guessing what you _really_ want to know is how well the IDL
window placing and sizing routines work. My guess is that IDL will see
one huge desktop of 2X by Y pixels (with single monitors of X by Y
pixels), and place things accordingly. Can anyone out there confirm or
deny this?

I cast a sleepy eye on that "duel" just before I hit
the SEND button. But I have to admit, I like the image
it contours up. :-)

Cheers,

David

I haven't yet tested it myself (we are waiting for the card), but
e.g. the Matrox G400 (now G450, I think) DH is supported in Dual Head
configuration by XFree86 4.0.1
I don't see why IDL should make problems with that...

This is of course again Unix, but I'm sure there are WinXX Drivers
that come with the card...

I can imagine dual dueling monitors now. Back to back, count off ten
paces, turn, adjust vhold and contrast, fire.
