Folks,
There *is* something worse than a computer software
monopoly, you know. The rampant de-regulation of the
telecommunications business. I'm not going to go into
the details, but suffice it to say that my lovely
long-distance carrier *still* doesn't know where I
live, how many phones I have, or how much to charge
me when I make a call. They make a guess at the bill;
I make a guess (lower) at how much I should pay them. :-(
But why the rant?
I made the inexplicable mistake yesterday of asking
my ISP to remove an unused e-mail account from my
services. And in the process, my FTP site suddenly
disappeared!
It has actually moved from this:
ftp://ftp.dfanning.com/pub/dfanning/outgoing
To this:
ftp://ftp.dfanning.com/pub/davidf/outgoing
I've asked them (kindly, for the moment) to move
it back, but the request needs to work its way
through several layers of bureaucracy and be
ratified by the Supreme Court, apparently, before
help arrives. (I don't care who the good folks
in Florida decide to elect as President, just so
he promises to restore the telephone monopoly
to, say, Microsoft. :-)
In any case, if you are looking for book program files,
they currently are not where they are suppose to be. :-(
Cheers,
David
