This isn't just an issue for linux. Just recently a Sun system I work on had been cracked (via the
ftp server). It's happened to big SGI boxes too. I would be amazed if *any* system *hasn't* been
cracked into. I can't comment on whether linux is more susceptible but I doubt it (on a per capita
basis).

Good lord. Doesn't *everyone* use SSH nowadays??? :o) If you are at some sort of institution that
has any sort of number crunching capability (that can be used for breaking into even more secure
machines) I hope that there are people employed just to watch out for this sort of thing.
