Good point-I'll add a link directly to the README so you don't have to
download the tar; will be added tomorrow.

Thank you for the explanations.
I guessed i could have read a README somewhere in the tar file, but from
home, i'm on a 28.8 connection, and i try not to download unless its
absolutely necessary. As it is, i'm typing about a line ahead of myself
right now...
Craig: I won't be a user because i don't use complex symbols in my plots.
Thanks again,
-Ken.

From the TeXtoIDL README file:
"The purpose of the TeXtoIDL routines is to make it simple to use Greek
letters, subscripts and superscripts in making labels for plots in IDL. This
is accomplished by allowing the user to use TeX control sequences for Greek
letters and special symbols and for sub/superscripts. The TeX control
sequences are simple and easy to remember, especially if you already use TeX
for writing papers (for those unfamiliar with TeX, an explanation of that
notation is below). The translation is done for either vector or PostScript
fonts."
Cheers,
Liam.

It is *definitely* a zen-thingey. There are secret
cabals all over the world where people write these
various runes. Check with your local physics department.
Cheers,
David
P.S. Let's just say the person who invented TeX
obviously wasn't a humanities major. :-(

Hi Craig,
I like TeX, and i love IDL.
Your message below, nor your webpage, mention *anything* about what
TeXtoIDL actually is!?!
Is it some zen-thingey, where i knew what it was until i asked this
question? Is it a secret club? If so, can i join?
Please give some info. I might very well become another user. Anyone else
feel free to answer since Craig says he won't check the newsgroup much...
thanks,
ken mankoff
