$RSI_DIR/idl_5.4/bin/bin.linux.x86/idl_lmgrd seems to be linked to
libc5.
I've replaced it with a copy from IDL 5.2.1L and everything works fine.
I don't think I have old libc installed on my system (SuSE 6.4,
k2.2.16).

Hi Perry,

RSI may not officially support RH7.0, but I have had not problems using
IDL on it, and *think* that the same goes for many other people on this
newsgroup. I don't remember the thread topic but somewhere between 2 and 4
months ago there was a thread on IDL & RH7.0 The bugs were window manager
bugs, and other trivial things, if i remember correctly.

-k.

IDLv5 + 4_RH7.0 is used here, without trouble. Be sure to install the
RH6.x compatibility libraries (which should be by default).

I've put IDL on a redhat 7 system. The only problem I've had is with
the license manager, not that this isn't a small problem since this
is the way RSI prefers to do the licensing. When I had an
evaluation sort of license that didn't require the license manager,
I had no problem.

There is a bug report in on the license manager issue but it only
went in on Friday. Besides, it's unclear to me that this isn't a
problem with my particular installation hardware (bp6 board with
dual celerons). It may be that other, less exotic installations will
have no problems at all.

My advice: try it and see.

probably best to ask RSI, you may want to ask here (or in Linux ng's)
if anyone has tried it on RH 7.0 , AFAIK, the main changes to RH from
6.2 --> 7.0 are 2.2 --> 2.4 kernel and 3.3.x to 4.0.x XFree. I use IDL
with RH 6.x systems without a problem. my guess is that it would work OK,
if it's a new system, the worst you would have to do is downgrade X. but
no ___guarantees___ !!!

also, you can probably still download RH 6.x from their website or many
mirrors if 7.0 doesn't work out. set-up your system to dual-boot and then
install the demo IDL, you can then work out all the bugs before hand.

*Interesting*. I haven't gone so far as to check the dependencies
issue.

Are you listening RSI?

Thanks!
