Yes, Davie Pierce did, the package is called udunits-idl_0.2.tar. I
didn't get it to work, however, it keeps telling me the package has not
been initialized :( Don't know what I am doing wrong here, I just use
the sampe program testit.pro that comes with the package. I had
contacted the author, but got no answer.

Try the udunits package - where to find? I think it comes with netcdf
(www.ucar.edu/...). And if I remember correctly, someone even wrote an
IDL interface for it. Alternatively, you can take a look at my convert
program at
http://www.mpimet.mpg.de/~schultz.martin/idl/html/src/martin _schultz/convert_unit.pro
