Don't hurry! The article speeks about "plans". You may want to wait so
the G4 can become a little cheaper or better or faster, or all three
;-)

Clicking that link did not work for me. For those (like me:) too lazy to
type the URL themselves:
http://www.rsinc.com/pr/detail.cfm?PressReleaseID=48

I think I'll go and ask my boss for a Mac now...

I just heard from the powers that be that a command line version will in
fact be included in the OSX IDL. Now we await the Quartz Emacs port,
and then bug Carsten if IDLWAVE needs any help getting going.

Not for me, I wanted the Mac to get *away* from emacs, vi and the like.
I'm just hoping that RSI will one day persuade Carsten to work on the
IDLDE... I can still see a lot of room for improvement there.
Jaco

PS: On second thought, maybe they should focus all efforts on Visual
IDL Programming? Definitely the thing for wannabe Mac users like me, and
it could easily incorporate keyboard shortcuts to allow for things like
[M-C-%]^\([C-u 73 .]\)\(.+\)[Ret]\1$[C-q C-j] \2[Ret] (quoting JD
here).
