Not sure if this is what you want but I have good luck with registering two
images with correl_optimize.pro
you will also need some sub procedures too.

Hi,

Does anybody know how the 2D optimization techniques in IDL could be used for
the
optimization problem in image registration e.g. using a mutual information or
similarity-measure
based metric?
