I don't use windows myself but David Fannings's site gives a description
of how to do this...

This says you can associate a *.sav file with a runtime license program.
Was one of these delivered with my IDL development license?
Can I use my development license somehow?

Can I just set Windows to open *.sav files with idlde.exe ?
