I would suggest it is a problem of MacX. We switched to eXodus
some time ago (we got a nice price for a competitive upgrade from
an older version of MacX to the 5.0.4 version of eXodus) and used
it from a IIcx, IIfx, IIvx and a PowerMac 7100. It run's fine, if
you give it about 4-5MB of memory. IDL make no problem on either
machine. We connect to RS/6k's on AIX3.2.4.
Together with a 3-button mouse you can really work with it.
As you are using the newest version of IDL, you have to run
AIX3.2.5 and especially Motif1.2; are you sure you have that ? The
default on AIX was Motif1.1.4 for a long time.
Summary: eXodus5.0.4|IDL3.5|AIX3.2.4 works fine; in a few weeks I will
be able to say something about
eXodus5.0.4|IDL3.6.x|AIX3.2.5
