We are now testing an alpha version of IDL on a 383 PC running MS-DOS Windows
3. The current version doesn't have the widgets toolkit but the next(?)
version will. We haven't used the PC version very much yet since we are too
busy developing code with a workstation version of IDL. You should wait for
RSI to release the official version to avoid some of the bugs detected with the
PC version so far.

I have seen an alpha version of IDL for Windows, and it looked pretty good. It
made a lot of difference which computer it was running on. It was a lot faster
on a 486 than on a 386. My understanding was that this was largely because the
386 did not have a math co-processor. I don't know what the marketing
situation is.
