Here is something interesting I just found out; RSI (makers of IDL) is
offering an inexpensive way of moving from Wave to IDL. Advantages
(according to RSI) are much cheaper yearly maintenance as well as
extra features Wave doesn't have (widget set, built-in statistics,
maps, dynamic linking, etc.)
Frankly this idea is tempting. Wave's use of RPC's instead of dynamic
links is especially disappointing, it's simply too hard to use. Also
I am pissed that Wave costs so much more with fewer extras. Anyway I
am soliciting comments from people who have dealt with both companies
on other than a superficial level. How would you compare their tech
support? How is the widgets library, easy to use? Useful? This is
something we are very interested in. The free statistics that IDL
offers wouldn't hurt either.
