I am trying to make an application with the IDL GUI Builder for
manipulation
and display of measured spectra (1D histograms y=f(x) ).

As part of that, I want to fit peaks with certain sets of functions
which
needs exchange of the order of 50 parameters between the user and the
IDL application (read/write).

I thought from the manuals that TABLE would be the right widget and I
have put a TABLE WIDGET into my application but with very little
success:
I am able to write something into a cell and as soon as I enter
<RETURN>,
I get an interrupt tio the right function in the code but the string
which I had entered has disappeared from the screen and I did also
not yet manage to transfer the string to the application. In addition,
I have not been able to write something to the cells from within IDL.

There is no example in the huge set of manuals. In the *.pro examples of
the installation set I found only 2(!) with tables but there the cell
contents are set at widget definition time (WIDGET_TABLE) and after that
they are never again changed.

Does somebody have a simple example on how to perform read / write to
cells in an table?

Thanks
Heinz J

P.S. I am using IDL 5.4 on a PC with w98
