Hi,

I am running idl3.6.1a on a Sparc (something or another) running Solaris
2.x.

I have been playing with teh New Resource_Name stuff for widget, and
have discovered something strange. At the moment I am just using
mnemonics (building a File menu, and motif style guide only requires it
has mnemonics.) For all the entries in the menu I have been able to set
the mnemonics okay, with something like the following entires:

Idl*File_New.mnemonic: N
Idl*File_Open.mnemonic: O
Idl*File_Save.mnemonic: S
etc...
And the work great, just hit N (or n) or O (or o) etc.. but, when I try
to make a mnemonic for the menu itself with the following resource line:

Idl*File.mnemonic: F
(where File is the resource Name) strange things happen:
-simply pressing F while within the menu bar or application doesn't
open the menu
-Meta F does open the menu (??? no idea why) When opened like this
the following happens:
-arrow keys still work
-enter, space, return no longer do anything (ie: you cannot
select)
-the meta keys for teh menu selections no longer work
-the only way to close the menu is Meta F
-opening the menu by clicking on the mouse still works with no
problem
-the F in FIle is underscored.

Any ideas folks? Is this IDL, or me not understanding IDL and/motif
stuff. Actually the motif style guide refers to having to push <alt>
keys to open up menus, do I need to define this as an accelerator? (I
have tried with no success)

Also, in the Xresource file, does anyone know how to define <ctrl>,
<alt>, backspace and shift keystrokes? Or know where this is defined on
the system.

thanks a bunch,

-stephen Strebel
(yes, I am building motif standard File, Edit and Help menus that
are flexable. Anyone interested in them can also write me. Most
likely we will put them on an ftp site soon...)
