I believe there are two main problems by the gif and idl.
1) The standard format used by idl for gif is to old I think it was
GIF87
2) In later IDL version gif support was stopped may be after paying the
gif licensing fee it is possible
to implement gif again.
If you load in animation shop your gif image movie you may be able to
translate it.
