What are you all guys talking about? All you have to do is take that
"IDL.very.old" folder and drag it into Trash. Nothing else is affected.
Or is it different on Windows ?...

I know that you do not list 5.5 beta but others might be interested...
On win2k sp-2, with 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5beta installed the uninstall of 5.5beta
really screwed up the works. After uninstalling 5.5beta using the
"Add/Remove Programs" control panel, every time I started IE windows
installer would run. After a number of "Cancels" windows installer would go
away and IE would run. A real pain.
The fix (known well to windows users) was to uninstall ALL versions of IDL.
After all versions of IDL were uninstalled IE was happy.
This of course may NOT happen in every case but I am not in the mood to test
this on a second machine right now.
So windows beta testers beware. Have your licensing info and old IDL cds
ready to go if you uninstall 5.5beta.

Pride comes before a fall.
IDL 5.5 on my powerbook kept failing at startup because
it was trying to use various libraries from the version 5.4
folder which I'd renamed and placed in the trash, but not
deleted.
Prior to 5.5 I'd never had a problem.
