I recently discovered for myself that IDL actually uses dynamic memory
allocation under Mac OS classic, expanding beyond the maximum allocated
RAM if needed. Do other (doomed) Mac users know this? If this is not
well known, there are some tips on using memory allocator more
effectively (courtesy of Thierry).

Cheers,
Pavel

Instead of filling up the NG with soon-to-be totally obsolete stuff, I
put Thierry's answers on the Web. You can see them at

Cheers,
Pavel

Fun ain't it? Still, Explorer is *much* worse.

Thanks Pavel. This was what I thought was going on, but
it's nice to have it confirmed.

<winge>
Incidentally, I *still* wish my programs could find out
how much application memory was available from within IDL.
boo hoo.
