I don't have any experience of writing DICOM images.
I only read lots of then and save in analyze format.

you are right; you can't create DICOM images directly from IDL.
IDL (actually RSI) needs to get some UIDs (from ACR/NEMA?)
to be able to create "official" DICOM images.
may be that's what WatSyn will provide.
