At a guess (I'm not at all familiar with all the things you talk about), but if
the variable i that is mentioned is an IDL variable and is an integer, then
the default integer size is 16 bits as apposed to 32 (if IDL is still the same
as PV-WAVE - I use PV-WAVE). So if you change the integer to be a long integer,
this might fix the problem.
