Hi,

I agree with the general discontent on this. I spent a lot of time running
the 5.5 beta test version to help avoid this kind of fundamental problem,
only to find RSI had introduced this 24-bit bug into the released version.

It does rather make you wonder. Is this IDL bug like the tip of an iceberg
and many more serious bugs are hidden!
