It just happened again:

The problem occurs when I go into the menu run/compile. After
compiling is completed the text that was hidden behind the
menu is not redrawn! Has anybody encountered this before?

Well, I have quiet a modern computer (purchased last summer) with
enough memory. I don't have to restart idlde or even the computer,
just the text in the editor window is not redrawn in some cases,
maybe when the region was covered with another window during the
program run. When I encounter it the next time I will try to fix
the exact conditions under which this problem occured.

Dear David and Olaf,

I have seen a similiar problem before with on old computer
with only a small amount of memory.
Sometimes the widget_buttons or icons of idlde get gray
or the text was covered with something.
Not always a restart of idl helps, sometimes the computer
has to be restarted too.

I believe the problem has something to do with the retain buffer.

On modern computers I haven't recognized it.

regards
Reimar

Well, that explains it. My programs are always error free. :^)

Strange, now that I try to reproduce the exact conditions under
which this bug appeared I cannot reproduce it! But I encountered
it quiet often in the past weeks, maybe it only happened when the
program halted due to some errors...?

I've never seen anything like this in my IDL 5.5 on
Windows 2000.

I'm on Win XP and I agree - I've seen this behaviour a few times, but I just
scroll the window a bit. On my machine I seem to recall it happenning when
I'm compiling a procedure with some sort of error in it ... sorry I can't be
more specific. I'll watch out for it and report back.

Meantime, am I the only person to be driven *crazy* by the fact that when I
place a breakpoint in my code, the program almost always stops with this at
the bottom of the editor (so I have to scroll down to see what's coming
before F10/F8'ing)? I suppose it's most irritating 'cause I'm using a
touchpad a lot:-(

Cheers,

Dave
