Hi,
I heavily use idl under linux and under win2000.
In win200, there is no command line idl, only the idlde.
And it is a really nice development environment.

Under linux however it simultaneously sucks and blows .
I can't believe what a lousy ugly piece of code the linux-idlde is.

Here are specific problems perhaps someone can help me out with
(for the linux KDE desktop idlde)

1) how can I get the hotkeys to work, such as ctl-s to save, ctl-f5 to
compile,f5 to run, ctl-r to return to main level etc? Currently, ctl-s just
makes a horizontal line, ctl-r is ignored etc. I have turned off the
KDE application hotkeys in the control panel, but it didn't help

2) is there any way to get rid of the strange 'end of line'/'carriage return'
symbols (they look sorta like an "r")that appear when the file is edited under windows.`
In my idlde editor, these are all over the place and it (along with the lack of syntax
coloring) make it annoying to read.

3) any way to permanantly resize the file dialog boxes? When I select "open file",
thefile dialog box pops up and shows me about 4 folders, and the first 10 characters
of my file names, so I have to resize it to about twice its size to be able to read the
filenames.

cheers,
bob

PS I know about IDLWAVE, and have it installed, but I would really rather
have the common interface that idlde would provide, rather than trying to
learn emacs.
