Greetings-
Does RSI support IDL 3.6 on an Intel box running Solaris 2.x?
I know about Windows 3.1 and NT support for Intel processors along with
Solaris 2.x support for Sparc processors, but I don't recall any
information about Intels w/ Solaris as the OS.

Who do we contact to express support ? RSI, the IDL Users Group or yourself ?

During the European IDL users meeting last week we had a long discussion with
Mr. David Stern, owner of RSI about porting IDL to unsupported operating
systems such as Linux, Intel Solaris, OS/2:
It will be done if there is enough request to justify one additional person at
RSI to support the port. There is at least one person at RSI responsible for
one operating system and there is a lot of work to be done. To port the kernel
seems to be no big deal but IDL consists of additional programs such as
interface to Motif, MS Windows GDI, ... and external routines such as
netCDF, XDR, OLE (to name a few) and others which have to be maintained
in a time schedule which is not synchronized with new IDL versions.
To have IDL ported to other operating systems we must indicate enough
request. Thus the port to Linux is no longer a matter of porting IDL to a
public domain operating system.
