This is also of interest to me. I understand the points about creating GIF
files and converting them to PPM. What do you use then to convert it to MPEG?
If I had the name, I could probably find it with xarchie.

Give me a call next week. I can show you how.

I made some MPEGs from some of our GOES-8 rapid scan data. You need
to convert them to PPM first. This can be done with PBMplus util
GIFtoPPM. I have two MPEG encoders, one for DOS and one for UNIX.
