I have been working with CONTOUR from IDL for Windows 3.6.1 on a 486.
I attempted to CONTOUR, /FILL and CONTOUR, /CELL_FILL a 144x72 data set
that has numbers representing percentage of clouds. Both methods produced
nice colored filled areas, but some areas had short spikes extending from
the areas. There are no missing points.

Can someone explain what is happening and can it be fixed? I attempted
to SMOOTH the data before contouring it, but this just moved the spkes to
another location.
