According to this July press release, there is supposed to be a
"'pre-release' version for general testing" for OSX. Now that beta
testing for 5.6 seems to have begun, Is there any word on when said
"pre-release" might be available for OSX?

Update 7/18/2002: The beta testing program for IDL on Mac OS X based
on IDL 5.5 has been in full swing for several weeks,
and plans are still on track. We plan to provide a
"pre-release" version for general testing during
the IDL 5.6 beta period, scheduled to begin in
mid-August. The Mac OS X version of IDL will be built
on IDL 5.6 and is expected to be released as part of
the IDL 5.6 release. Please see the FAQ below for
more details about IDL for Mac OS X.

Have anyone tried IDL 5.5.x beta in Mac OS X 10.2? I can install the
program, but it seems that something are not compatible with the 10.2,
so idl cannot be executed.
I hope that the IDL 5.6 has so such problems.
