Hi all,

I really don't want to start this debate (again). I did, nevertheless,
stumble across a useful package that offers similar functionality to
IDL/MATLAB that some of you may be interested in. The package is called
Ch, and is a superset of C/C++ that presents a relatively sane command line
interpreter. Code can also be compiled.

The best part (IMHO) is that the standard package is FREE for students,
instructors and non-profit organizations. Admittedly, the free version
does not support graphics, but all of the computational functionality
remains. The professional version (i.e. including graphics) is available
to students at a discounted price of $99 USD.

Details at: http://www.softintegration.com/

Cheers,
Randall
