Truncating a file [message #3272] Mon, 02 January 1995 16:29

Hi Netlandia,

there seems to be little traffic in this group these days...

I'm writing some code to process huge signal files and one question comes
to my mind:

How do I truncate a file without copying the data to another file and deleting
the original ?

I don't have the disk space to hold both copies. OpenU allows to read and
write files but unless I add records the size is not changed.

If there is no IDL function to truncate a file I need a MS Windows / DOS
utility for that.

Thanks for any help
