Best way of detecting a directory [message #3276] Thu, 29 December 1994 13:38

Hi,

I use IDL on machines running Unix (or alike) and VMS, and I have a
routine (I call it CHK_DIR) that can detect a given string to see if
it represents a *valid* directory name. Spawning a subprocess to make
the test is my way of doing it (which I think is a must under VMS),
but its kind of slow. I wonder if anyone out there has a better
way.

Thanks.
