This is a total shot in the dark....

Has anyone seen opensource ascii data manipulation applications? I've
looked on the web but maybe not with the most appropriate keywords.

I'm looking to merge datasets of varying time bases, column formats etc,
without having to write it all from scratch.
Sure, it's a matter of time management. Someone must have written this
and put it out for the world to benefit from. I'm sure people are
writing the same things over and over again to merge large ascii data
sets.

Any tips appreciated!

Check the opensource projects website. I can't recall seeing anything like
you suggest, but it sure would be nice, wouldn't it?
