Being short of disk space, I recently compressed my hard disk using
DoubleSpace (MSDOS 6.20). However, I noticed some general protection
faults (GPFs) when running IDL 3.5.1 on the compressed drive which
never occured before. Since I also did some changes in the memory
management, I thought there might be some problems with UMBs and so on.
However, the GPFs remained despite trying several memory allocation
schemes. Luckily, on the uncompressed drive there was enough space
for the executable and the dynamic link libraries. So, I run IDL from
the uncompressed drive and the problems were gone.
Are there any similar experiences with IDL (or other programs)?
Best regards,
