Hi,

some of us have to submit powerpoint files.
It's easy to run powerpoint in wine on a linux box.

May be someone has much more experience in this as I am.
Who knows a really simple way to convert images or mpeg1 files
to video for windows on linux.

I know Ronn was able to set up a avi dlm for windows. In the past I was
believing I could do the same for linux. But this takes to much time at the
moment. (it's a long moment)

This could get messy. Taking WINE out of the picture, can you play your
MPEG-1 files on a true windows machine? Can you play your MPEG-1 file on
your linux box using Xanim?

I ask this because although the IDL MPEG-1 encoder will allow you to create
just about any MPEG-1 file you can imagine, many decoders will only decode
certain combinations of size and bit-rate. So although you may have a valid
MPEG-1 file, the CODECs used by your media players may not be able to decode
it.

Once you get the file playing in a stand-alone player, then try it from w/in
powerpoint.

While a pretty poor CODEC for scientific animation, MPEG-1 codecs are
installed by default on all versions of windows going back to at least 98
and probably 95. Another option is the Radius Cinepack codec (installed by
default back to at least win98) but it too gives poor results when used with
scientific animations.
