I have also experienced this problem with AXP OpenVMS V6.1, IDL V3.6
and it is quite annoying. This is not really a solution, but you can
continue the IDL process by typing CONTINUE at the $ prompt, before you
execute any other DCL commands. As soon as you execute another command, the
IDL process is automatically killed. However, once the IDL session is
continued, additional Control C's kick you back to the $ prompt...
