Dear Mierk,

my fault I did not thought that only reading is implemented.
What kind of data would you like to store in HDF5?
I haven't googled a lot but there are filter from netCDF to HDF5 or from
HDF4 to HDF5 already available.

For example this one:
http://hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu/h4toh5/libh4toh5.html
or
http://my.unidata.ucar.edu/content/proposals/NASA-AIST-2002/ abstract.html

Did ypu have done a feature request for writing HDF5? If not I would suggest
to do it now.

regards

Reimar

Dear Reimar,

thanks for the answer, but I was asking just about _writing_ HDF5 files, not
reading them. I've now found out that IDL 5.6 in fact does not support
writing the files (see IDL Reference Guide, Page 3136), so I guess my
question is now reduced to 'Does anyone know whether the capability to
writie HDF5 files is included in IDL 6.0'?

Thanks anyways,

Mierk

Dear Mierk

it is implemented in idl 5.6. I've not used it but there is a lot of
description in the online help.
