I'm trying to make a sigma with a hat (circumflex) on top using hardware
fonts in PostScript. I usually try to use textoidl() for tasks like this,
but textoidl() does not understand \hat.

In regular TeX, one would do $\hat \sigma$ but that fails here:

Following the presciption in Liam's book (pp.255-256 - thanks, Liam!):

Set_plot,'PS'
Font=0
Text=textoidl('\hat \sigma'',FONT=Font)
Print,text

\hat !Ms!X
