Not silly at all. If you poked around comp.lang.idl you could probably
figure it out but that group is for the Interface Definition Language. That
IDL is a language for describing COM interfaces.

comp.lang.idl-pvwave is, as you know, for the Interactive Data Language.
Quite a bit different. So fire off your questions here. :)
