For what it's worth, we are able to run vanilla-flavored IDL 6.0 for
Mac OS X 10.2.7 on a G5 1.8 GHz out of the box. We use eXodus rather than
Apple X11 beta as an X11 server.

It's TBD whether IDL 6.0 can run out of the box under Panther.
