Perhaps it will depend on how well the PV-Wave port to Linux does?

My impression from RSI is that they are still considering the port, but the
big question is how they will support it, etc.

One idea that I was discussing with the director of sales at RSI, was that
they may port IDL to linux, make it and any documentation available
only by ftp, and charge for support on a per call basis. The cost of the
initial license was not discussed in great details, but my impression is that
the license cost would be such that students can afford this distribution.

So, from discussions in mid-feb, IDL for Linux is still a possibility.

A trial version of Wave for Linux is available by ftp from sunsite.unc.edu.
As I recall, this evaluation port will run till mid april.
