Does anyone know of an IDL routine to parse chemical formulas?
A very simple example would be given the string "Ca(NO3)2" return two
arrays such as
["Ca","N","O"] and [1,2,6]
but it would be nice to be able to handle isotopes and much more
complicated formulas.

Happy New Year, everyone!
