Could anyone please tell me how i can speed my programmes by
optimising memory allocation? From the sizes of the arrays used in my
programme, i require between 200 kBytes and 20 MBytes. However my PC
has 1 GByte of RAM and runs under XP, so if running efficiently,
memory shouldnt be a problem.

When i am at the 200 kByte end, the programme runs very fast, but when
i am at the 20 MByte size, it runs incredibly slowly. This is not due
to the amount of computation, therefore it must be down to memory
allocation, and the way IDL does its dynamic memory allocation. Is
there any way i can make this programme run faster?

Is there any way i can tell if the IDL programme is paging to disk, as
i would want to avoid this at all cost?

Many thanks,
Neil
