you might want to post an inquiry on the matlab news group about
the relative value of the image processing toolkit...
the answer will at least partly depend on how your data are
structured, and the dimensionality. we were unpleasantly suprised
by the revelation that Matlab can only handle 2-D arrays. that
means no hyper cubes, no rgb images, unless we've missed something
fundamental.
keep in mind that the core of matlab is a signal processing (EE)
heritage, while IDL was designed to work with images from the beginning...
