Sorry, I forgot to say that I am running IDL3.6.1a on Sun/Solaris2.3.
Anyway, here's what I did:
Whenever I invoke IDL I execute a shell which includes this line:
xrdb -merge /usr/local/lib/app-defaults/idl.Xdefaults
The contents of that file is just this:
Idl.colors: -5
Idl*threeD: TRUE
Idl*background: PeachPuff2
Idl*scale: 10
serdar.manizade@gsfc.nasa.gov
NASA Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, VA, USA
