I've ported some FORTRAN code to SUN, and successfully created the FORTRAN
shareable object for IDL's call external. The application worked great.
Next, I tried SOLARIS V3.3, and I get an error on a FORTRAN READ statement
(which worked fine on SUN). At the statement

READ (5, 8020, ERR=8030, END=8888) INPUT

the program does not wait for my string input. Upon printing INPUT, I
see that the program belives it is a null string, although I haven't
entered anything. I tried other combinations: changed 5 to *, removed the
banches ERR=, END= ...still the same results. Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks
PS The FORTRAN was originally written for VMS, but the READ does not
use any of the VAX FORTRAN extensions...
