This is a pretty large subject that is discussed extensively elsewhere, so
it is best to point you to something like:
http://www.w3schools.com/xml/default.asp
or any of the other many web sites that cover XML.
At the above link, the section called "XML Validation" discusses schemas and
gives examples.
